Language/Arts

Beginning at a very young age with phonics and phonemic awareness, children absorb the sounds of the letters and words that we use. Early practice of letter recognition, short and long vowels, and proper grammar usage helps children with reading fluency and comprehension when they learn the skills in a school setting. There are so many items available that have long term benefits in the area of language. Try to read books together with your child. Even before your child can read, a parent can read and point to each word as they go along. When the child learns to read on their own, it is great practice to read together-with the parent and child taking turns, each reading one page at a time. Aside from the quality time spent together, the valuable skills learned are a wonderful benefit for the future. (Taken from "Seven Keys to Comprehension")
